Juli 2026 – Mehrere Solo- und Trio-Kompositionen von Wolfgang Seligo verzeichnen seit rund einem halben Jahr eine wachsende Präsenz im internationalen Rundfunk. Innerhalb des letzten Jahres wurden seine Einspielungen von rund 50 spezialisierten Jazz- und Kulturradiostationen weltweit ins Programm aufgenommen.

Die Radioeinsätze reichen von regionalen Kultur- und Independent-Sendern auf mehreren Kontinenten bis hin zu namhaften Public-Radio-Plattformen. Voneinander völlig unabhängige Redaktionen – darunter Stationen in den USA, Kanada, Frankreich sowie Shonan Beach FM in Japan – haben Seligos Titel eigenständig ins Programm oder teils direkt in ihre Rotationen gewählt. Ein besonderer Erfolg ist die Listung im Programm von Jazz24 (KNKX Seattle), einem der weltweit meistgehörten digitalen Jazz-Angebote mit einer globalen Reichweite von mehreren Hunderttausenden JazzhörerInnen.

Zusätzlich zu diesen Radioeinsätzen profitierte der Künstler von einer landesweiten Syndikations-Ausstrahlung in Australien. Über ein dortiges Kultur- und Regionalnetzwerk wurde seine Musik über mehr als 20 Stationen flächendeckend auf dem Kontinent verbreitet. Es scheint, als ob Seligos „Alternative Jazz“ im Ausland zunehmend auf Interesse stößt.

Pianist and composer Wolfgang Seligo is fully at home in a wide range of musical styles. His original compositions are influenced by jazz, rock, and modern classical music, all driven by a funky, powerful piano sound. Performing both in various formations and solo, he has brought his work to stages across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States. He has given concerts in Chicago, Washington D.C., the Forbidden City in Beijing, on Red Square in Moscow, and in Morocco, Senegal, Turkey, Poland, Tehran, Rome, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, and Ljubljana, among many other locations. His music is also regularly broadcast by numerous radio stations worldwide. For some time, he has been involved in the free improvisation scene, playing with artists such as Karlheinz Essl and Sainkho Namtchylak, and experimenting with AI and improvisation together with Richard Graf. Here, he effortlessly transcends traditional genre boundaries, seeking unpredictable, free experimentation in interplay with contemporary sound art and electronics.

After studying jazz in Vienna, Wolfgang Seligo gathered his first experiences as a composer, producer, and musician in the early 1990s. In addition to participating in various ensembles within the Viennese scene, he cofounded the ethnic jazz project "Ziryab" (Extraplatte) together with Dhafer Youssef and Gerhard Reiter, which toured Austria and Germany. He also pursued other activities, including working as a solo composer, co-producing regional music projects (Ariola BMG, EMI), and composing advertisements and media scores for radio, TV, and cinema. Since about 2000, Wolfgang Seligo has dedicated himself to concert piano music that blends jazz, rock, and improvised music with elements of classical music, touring his work throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States. The liaison of improvised music with classical and contemporary classical music plays a central role in his compositions. Since 2007, Seligo has performed piano solo concerts and concerts with classical instrumentation (e.g., cello), where improvisation plays a significant role. This was followed by several music releases (Alternative Jazz Piano, Jazz Trio, Wolfgang Seligo Jazz Trio live in Ljubljana) and the solo piano work Alternative Jazz Piano, written for jazz pianists and classically trained pianists alike.

Since 2020 he has been chairman of the jazz composition section of the Austrian Composers' Association (formerly Komponistenbund) and initiated the “Austrian Composers Young Jazz Award” competition, which has been taking place since 2022. In addition, Wolfgang Seligo holds an active honorary membership with SFIEMA (Society for Sound Art, Free Improvisation and Experimental Music Austria) since 2025.

Jazz trifft Ethno, klassische Klänge und Rock. Wolfgang Seligo, Pianist und Komponist, ist in verschiedensten Musikwelten zu Hause. Bei seinen Kompositionen werden auf dem Klavier jazzige, rockige und moderne klassische Einflüsse hörbar, wobei er hier einen kräftigen, mitunter funkigen Ton anschlägt. Er brachte seine Musik in unterschiedlichen Besetzungen und auch als Solokünstler in Europa, Asien, Afrika und den USA auf die Bühne. Er gab Konzerte in Chicago und Washington, in der Verbotenen Stadt in Peking, am Roten Platz in Moskau, in Marokko, im Senegal, in der Türkei, in Polen, in Teheran, in Rom, Prag, Wien, Budapest, Ljubljana und an vielen weiteren Orten – wobei seine Musik auch weltweit von zahlreichen Radiostationen regelmäßig im Rundfunk ausgestrahlt wird. Seit einiger Zeit bewegt er sich auch in der freien Improvisationsszene und spielte unter anderem mit Karlheinz Essl und Sainkho Namtchylak und gemeinsam mit Richard Graf experimentierte er mit KI und Improvisation. Hier überschreitet er traditionelle Genregrenzen und sucht im Zusammenspiel mit zeitgenössischer Klangkunst und Elektronik das unvorhersehbare, freie Experiment.

Während seines Jazz Studiums in Wien sammelte Wolfgang Seligo Anfang der 1990er-Jahre erste musikalische Erfahrungen mit Ensembles der Wiener Szene, wie auch mit dem gemeinsam mit Dhafer Yousseff und Gerhard Reiter mitgegründeten Ethno-Projekt "Ziryab" (Extraplatte) welches in Deutschland und Österreich konzertierte. In dieser Zeit beschäftigte sich Seligo auch als Auftragskomponist und Co-Produzent für einige regionale Musikprojekte (Spray/Ariola BMG, EMI) und Werbemusik für Radio, TV und Kino. Ab ca. 2000 wechselt Wolfgang Seligo seinen bisherigen musikalischen Kurs und rückt sein eigenes Instrument, das Klavier, dabei in den Vordergrund. Er beginnt Jazz, Rock und improvisierte Musik mit Elementen aus der Klassik zu verbinden und tourte mit dieser Musik sowohl in Europa und Asien als auch in Afrika und den USA. Es folgten verschiedene Musikveröffentlichungen ("Alternative Jazz Piano", "Jazz Trio", "Wolfgang Seligo Jazz Trio live in Ljubljana") und das Solo-Klavier-Werk "Alternative Jazz Piano" für Jazzpianisten und klassisch ausgebildete Pianisten.

Seit 2020 ist er Vorsitzender der Fachgruppe Jazzkomposition bei der Austrian Composers Association (ehemals Komponistenbund) und initiierte den Wettbewerb Austrian Composers Young Jazz Award, welcher seit 2022 stattfindet. Zudem hält Wolfgang Seligo seit 2025 eine aktive Ehrenmitgliedschaft bei der SFIEMA (Society for Sound Art, Free Improvisation and Experimental Music Austria).

Le compositeur et pianiste viennois Wolfgang Seligo est reconnu pour une approche légère et enjouée au Jazz en y associant des influences de la musique classique et du funk. En Jazzmann chevronné les prestations musicales de Wolfgang Seligo ne se laissent pas confiner et sont à géométrie variable. A l’international, ses compositions ont été jouées aux quatre coins du monde, dans des endroits aussi variés que la cité interdite de Pékin, la Place Rouge de Moscou, ainsi que les hauts lieux du Jazz comme Chicago ...
